Pro Peninsula supports community-based conservation of coastal ecosystems and natural resources along the coast of the Baja California peninsula. This coastline plays home to a wealth of vital habitats, including mangrove ecosystems, estuaries, coral reefs, and natural bays and barrier islands. The diverse habitat of the zone supports a wealth of biodiversity: grey whale nurseries, vital sea turtle nesting and foraging habitat, hundreds of species of birds, as well as some of the most productive fishing grounds in all of Mexico. |
Strong, locally-based organizations are vital to preserving habitat, sustainably managing natural resources, and creating a long term culture of conservation and stewardship throughout the region. Pro Peninsula has played an instrumental role in the launch and development of independent conservation organizations throughout the region. Pro Peninsula works with local organizations to:
- build strong boards
- create administrative capacity
- cultivate strategic relationships
- develop and implement strategic plans
- design funding strategies
- implement education and outreach campaigns
