Communicating Our Message Widely |

One of the main challenges in the field of
marine conservation is the progression from field research to knowledge to the
modification of detrimental behaviors. Often, vital conservation information is
contained in peer-reviewed journals and lacks real impact. Recognizing this, a
comprehensive communications plan remains a major part of our sea turtle
conservation strategy. Based on our research and work in communities, we
implement practical solutions and share our findings, successes and challenges
widely through a variety of projects, media outlets, symposia, and public
meetings, with the goals of defining policy and modifying behaviors that
directly threaten sea turtles and inhibit their
recovery. |

Environmental Education: The Tortuga
Móvil
In order to
successfully save the region’s sea turtles, we must share our conservation
message with communities throughout the peninsula. Many of our target
communities are located in isolated regions with no phones or local media, no
internet access, and hard to travel, rural roads. The Tortuga Móvil tours the
Baja California peninsula bringing our conservation message to isolated
communities. The Tortuga Móvil is a retrofitted van that allows us to offer our
proven conservation program by bringing individuals to other communities to
share their conservation successes and partner towards new ones.
