The coral reef at Cabo Pulmo National Park is the only hard reef in all of the Baja California peninsula, and is one of only three living reefs in all of North America. Home to 256 different species of fish, as well as a nesting and feeding site for a great variety of birds, whale sharks, gray whales, and Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Olive Ridley, Black and Leatherback Sea Turtles, Cabo Pulmo is one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world.
Cabo Pulmo is currently established as one of Mexico's many Natural Protected Areas, and is also under the stewardship of Amigos para la Conservación de Cabo Pulmo (ACCP), a locally grown network of fishermen and other local residents dedicated to protecting this precious ecosystem, and spreading awareness about the importance of preserving the natural resources of Cabo Pulmo. |
