Pro Peninsula Ocean Connectors Coordinator and Outreach Assistant
Pro Peninsula seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic individual to run our Ocean Connectors youth education program. Ocean Connectors links underprivileged San Diego students with their local natural resources. Students receive in-class presentations about local ecology and sea turtle biology, and will have the chance to participate in a letter exchange program with students in Japan and Mexico. Students then get out into the field, to learn more about ongoing sea turtle research and conservation projects. In addition to linking students with their local environment, Ocean Connectors shows youth the practical side to science, and gives them a sense that local actions often have a global impact.
Additionally, this individual will support Pro Peninsula’s Outreach Coordinator in sharing our message of conservation with the broader public. Specifically, this individual will be responsible for seeking out and attending local outreach events, encouraging individuals to become involved with Pro Peninsula, and maintaining records following all outreach events.
Pro Peninsula is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities and organizations on the Baja California peninsula to protect and preserve their environment. Pro Peninsula envisions the creation of a network of strong and effective environmental organizations backed by an educated and active public working towards the common goal of environmental preservation. Over the past six years, Pro Peninsula has helped to create and sustain four different independent, community non-profit organizations on the peninsula, as well as provide local school children in San Diego with the opportunity to experience conservation work first-hand through our Ocean Connectors program.
